Art Balfour in collaboration with Jan Manton Art will be showcasing new artwork every 12 weeks, allowing hotel guests, clients and the general public to admire and buy the works of some of Australia's best artists, whilst enjoying the many comforts of the hotel.

Spicers Balfour Hotel in New Farm and Jan Manton Art are pleased to announce, “How do I compare thee’ a photographic exhibition by acclaimed Netherlands’s based artist Margriet Smulders being launched on Thursday 26th April.
Margriet is recognised for her enticing ‘paintings’ of floral compositions based on the traditional still life paintings of the ‘golden age’ of 17th century Dutch painters. Her photographs are rich in colour, accentuating the fullness and delicate nature of flowers as they float within the composition. With the use of a mirror, the boundaries of the work blurs to the point where the viewer is ‘lost’ in a floating world of purple irises, ragged orange tulips and crumpled lips of full-blown petals that appear to be moving the rippled water.
As Smulders says, “The effect is like looking into a clear pond, where rivulets of pure water descend from glacial protrusions.”
Margriet Smulders work is exhibited throughout Europe and America and her work sits in important museum, corporate and private collections.
